The Problem

Project Background

Our team was approached by a client looking to create a rear bicycle lamp with integrated indicators. The idea was that these would strobe echoing the current trend in car indicators. These were to be actuated by a controller either hand mounted or mounted on the handlebars. The task included the development of electronics, industrial design and software for both components in the system.

How we overcame the challenge

Conficio undertook phases 1 and 2 for this particular client. During the first phase the shape of the design was prepared and signed off. Concepts for the controller were considered with the pros and cons of each compared. Our team discussed the merits of these with the client and a suitable solution was settled upon. Once the PDS, Hardware specification and concept document were approved, our team started on Phase 2.
To give reliable feedback to the user, the controller was designed to echo the state of the indicator. This informed the user of the current state of indication and brake light.
The prototype plastics were 3D printed in SLA with rubber buttons. Each prototype was fitted with the first iteration of PCB which was programmed with appropriate software. The units were tested and then delivered.
